1. Power outages impact thousands in rural Peoria, Stark counties (25newsnow.com) — Thousands of residents in rural Peoria and Stark counties lost power Sunday night as storms moved out and freezing temperatures set in, with Princeville seeing the largest outage in Peoria County. Ameren Illinois reports major, ongoing outages in Princeville, Toulon, and Wyoming, but has not yet provided restoration estimates for affected customers.

2. Faith group gifts 90 hope-filled handbags to Peoria Dream Center (centralillinoisproud.com) — Women staying at Dream Center Peoria just received 90 “Handbags With Hope,” each filled with toiletries and encouragement from an Iowa minister who drove seven hours to deliver them. The faith-based outreach aims to restore dignity for women facing addiction, abuse, or hardship, reminding Peorians that regional neighbors are investing in local lives.
   

3. Illinois Law establishes continuing education credits for pesticide license renewal (shawlocal.com) — A new Illinois law backed in the Senate by Peoria’s David Koehler will let pesticide applicators renew licenses through continuing education credits instead of retesting every three years. The program, expected to launch by 2027, will slightly raise fees and require about five hours of approved training annually, affecting farmers, lawn-care operators, and other licensed applicators across the Peoria area.
   

4. ECHL and PHPA reach tentative deal, ending hockey walkout (wcia.com) — Professional hockey players and the ECHL have reached a tentative labor deal, announced from Peoria, ending a brief walkout that postponed 28 games across the league. Players will return to their teams while the agreement awaits union ratification and league approval, restoring AA hockey schedules, including for nearby Bloomington’s city-owned Grossinger Motors Arena tenant, the Bloomington Bison.
