The Public Works Department is reminding drivers of changes surrounding parking in downtown Peoria. In late spring, the Department relaxed parking enforcement for the downtown parking meters to support reestablishing business operations that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that businesses are reopening with more normalcy, and the associated traffic is returning, beginning Monday, August 17, Public Works will resume enforcement of metered parking spots per usual. The City will continue to maintain parking meters that are covered with yellow bags marked with, “Curbside Pickup Parking Only.”

“Parking enforcement is intended to preserve safety and access for Peoria residents,” said Traffic Engineer, Nick Stoffer. “As foot and motor vehicle traffic picks back up downtown, we need to ensure access for people with disabilities, first responders and those who utilize loading zones with a routine that is conducive to all users.”

Motorists are encouraged to follow all posted parking signage and pay for parking in metered spots. For parking questions related to rules and regulations, contact Public Works at publicworks@peoriagov.org.
