2. Grocery tax to remain in most Central Illinois municipalities despite statewide repeal (centralillinoisproud.com) — Most Central Illinois communities, including Peoria and West Peoria, will keep charging a local grocery tax even after the state’s tax ends in 2026, affecting what you pay at the checkout. Peoria Heights is a rare exception, remaining grocery tax-free for six months due to a missed deadline after a veto fight, while officials debate how fair the tax is and how to replace lost revenue.

Peoria gas prices drop, now averaging $2.80 per gallon (centralillinoisproud.com) — Peoria-area drivers are seeing some relief at the pump, with average gas prices down to $2.80 per gallon and some nearby stations as low as $2.49. Prices have fallen steadily over the past month and year, and analysts say the downward trend could continue into January or February, barring major changes in oil markets.

4. Peoria man jailed, accused of shooting, possessing illegal gun (25newsnow.com) — Peoria police say a 19-year-old local resident was arrested after gunfire was detected near North University and West Nowland late Sunday, with no injuries reported.
