Fire Breaks Out At Plainfield Nursing Home: FD
A small heating unit caught fire in an unoccupied room at the nursing home, officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A heating unit caught fire Nov. 30 in an unoccupied room at the Lakewood Nursing and Rehab Center Nov. 30 in Plainfield, fire officials reported Monday.
On the morning of the last Sunday in November, Plainfield firefighters were called to the nursing home, at 14716 Eastern Ave., for an activated fire alarm. While en route, dispatchers informed crews that a fire was reported inside one of the rooms, leading to an upgraded alarm that brought additional fire apparatus and ambulances.
Officials said three nursing team members jumped into action. They put out the fire with a portable fire extinguisher, closed the door to confine the smoke and dry chemical to the room, and ensured nearby residents were safely evacuated.
