Grinchmas On The Green, Creche Lighting: Details Of Plainfield Holiday Events

Plainfield will usher in the holiday season with the beloved events, which coincide with Small Business Saturday.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Multiple beloved traditions will mark the start of the holiday season Saturday in Plainfield.

The village's Grinchmas on the Green, the Plainfield Area Public Library's Handmade Holiday Market, and the Lions Club's Creche Lighting will all coincide with Small Business Saturday.

Grinchmas on the Green will return to Village Green from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Here is the schedule of events:

  • 4:30 p.m. — Free hot cocoa and cookies, while supplies last, under the pavilion
  • 5 p.m. — Santa and the Grinch arrive with help from the Plainfield Fire Protection District
  • 5:15 p.m. — Santa and the Grinch light the giant Village Green Christmas tree
  • 5:30 p.m. — Snap photos with Santa and the Grinch in Whoville (tennis court)

At the same time as the Christmas event at the park, the library will host its Handmade Holiday Market from 5-8 p.m. More than 60 vendors specializing in handmade decor, gifts and treats are set to participate.

To close out the event-filled day, the Plainfield Lions Club will host its annual creche-lighting program at Plymouth Congregational Church, 24022 Lockport St. Community singing will begin at about 6:30 p.m., and the creche program will start at 7 p.m., both inside, Pastor William Beagle said. The creche lighting will take place at about 7:45 p.m., with a singing of "Silent Night" to close out the evening.
