This Is Illinois' Favorite Christmas Movie
From "Die Hard" to "Elf" to "How The Grinch Stole Christmas," a new study reveals each state's favorite holiday classic.

ILLINOIS — 'Tis the season to put up the tree, finish up your shopping and — in those rare moments of relaxation — put on your favorite holiday movie. There's something nostalgic about settling in and watching the same movies year after year. Would it even be Christmas without "It's A Wonderful Life," "A Christmas Story" or "Miracle on 34th Street"?
Here in Illinois, we've got a different holiday classic. According to StreamingObserver.com, a site dedicated to all things streaming, here in the Land of Lincoln, the most popular holiday flick is the 1990 classic "Home Alone." Set and filmed right here in Chicagoland —the famous "Home Alone house" is in Winnetka — the movie pits clever 8-year-old Kevin McCallister against two bumbling crooks.

StreamingObserver said it used data from Rotten Tomatoes and other public sources to compile the most popular Christmas movies of all time, then partnered with Mindnet Analytics and used Google Trends to determine each state's favorite.
While some states were purists, sticking to classics like "White Christmas," other states went with movies like "Gremlins." And despite a heated debate about whether it's truly a Christmas movie or just an action flick, "Die Hard" was the favorite holiday movie in multiple states.
