PLAINFIELD, IL — After a successful return in 2024, Plainfield Fest is back on the calendar with the "traditional downtown layout" and carnival on June 27-29.

The Village Board approved the event at its Feb. 3 meeting. It's the second consecutive year the festival will come back in full swing following a hiatus in 2023 and a parred-down event lacking a carnival for two years before that.

Similar to last summer, the entertainment tent and music state will be set up in the Des Plaines Street municipal parking lot and Plainfield Township parking lot. The areas will be fully enclosed by fencing and consist of a beer tent, music and other entertainment forms.

Food vendors will be in the parking lot on the southwest corner of Lockport Street and Des Plaines Street, and craft vendors will be located in Village Green.

The event wouldn't be the same without the carnival, and organizers got the green light from Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 to set up rides at Plainfield Central High School.

Several streets will be closed for the weekend to make way for the fest. Des Plaines Street will be blocked from the alleyway south of Lockport Street to Oak Street from 4 p.m. June 27 until about 7 p.m. June 29. Lockport Street will also close during the same timeframe.

Last year, Plainfield Fest cost the village nearly $55,000 in staffing costs between the Plainfield Police Department (paid more than $38,500 for the event), Plainfield Public Works Department and Plainfield Emergency Management Agency. To offset the cost, the village is proposing the Riverfront Foundation reimburse the village with a quarter of the net profits, capped at $17,500, according to a staff report.

"As Plainfield Fest will include street closures and multiple locations in 2025, personnel needed to safely operate Plainfield Fest will be comparable to what was required for last year," the report reads.
