Plainfield North Students Earn Top Marks On National German Exam

Three students won silver or bronze medals, while three others earned honorable mentions for their scores on the exam.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Three students from Plainfield North High School earned top marks on the 2025 National German Exam, district officials announced.

Sophomore Nicholas Calvert earned a "Silberurkunde," or silver medal, for scoring in the 90th to 99th percentile on the exam. Megan Morris, a sophomore, and Lily Allen, a junior, both earned "Bronzeurkunde," or bronze medals, for scoring in the 70th to 79th percentile.

Sophomores Julian Collado and Alex Kelly, junior Kate Cummings, and senior Kaitlin McCready earned honorable recognition for their scores.

The National German Exam is administered yearly to more than 15,000 high school students studying German. Now in its 65th year, the NGE provides individual diagnostic feedback, rewards students through a regional and national prize program, and "Creates a sense of accomplishment," Director of Community Relations Linda Taylor wrote in a news release.

Exam results help teachers compare students in all regions of the country and use programmatic data to inform curricular decisions.
