Plainfield Resident Leaves Dog In Garage While Out Of Town: Police

Police went to the house for a report of a dog at large, finding a white dog inside an open garage with "no visible source of water."

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield homeowner was accused of animal cruelty after police say she left her dog in a garage "with no visible source of water" while out of town.

Officers were called around 5:54 p.m. Sunday to a residence on General Drive for a report of a dog at large. There, police found a white dog inside an open garage, with food scattered across the floor and multiple piles of feces, Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.

At the time, weather reports showed the temperature was about 29 degrees, with wind chills that made it feel like 11 degrees, Novak said.

Officers called the homeowners, who told police they were away on the West Coast and left the dog in the garage in the meantime. The door was not supposed to have been open, they informed police, according to Novak.

As a result of the investigation, Tamika N. Wade was cited for two local ordinance violations of animal neglect or cruelty and dog at large.
