Plainfield Starbucks Affected As Company Shuts Down Pickup-Only Concept
Starbucks is ending its pickup-only concept, affecting 90 stores, including 10 in Illinois.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Starbucks location in Plainfield is one of the approximately 90 locations across the country affected when the coffee chain sunsets its pickup-only concept next year as part of a new company strategy, according to USA Today.
The Plainfield location at 127th Street and Route 59 is could close, along with nine other pickup only stores in Illinois, including locations in Chicago, Glenview and Schaumburg. Some locations could be converted to traditional Starbucks stores, the company said.
USA Today reported that CEO Brian Niccol announced on an earnings call this week that Starbucks will be phasing out its pick-up only store model in 2026.

Niccol said the "Starbucks Pick Up" venture that was launched in 2019 was no longer compatible with the coffee chain's plan to get "back to Starbucks," according to USA Today
"We found this format to be overly transactional and lacking the warmth and human connection that defines our brand," Niccol said on the call, according to USA Today.
