See What Roads Will Close For Hometown Irish Parade, Paddy Day Race
Several roads in downtown Plainfield will be blocked off to traffic to make way for the Hometown Irish Parade and Paddy Day Mile Run.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Downtown Plainfield will be bustling on Sunday as residents and visitors come out to watch the Hometown Irish Parade or race in the Paddy Day Mile Run.
Both events are expected to cause traffic delays, so Plainfield police are preparing by implementing multiple road closures between 5 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The race will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Lockport Street, and the parade will step off at 1 p.m. from Plainfield Central High School.

Starting at 5 a.m. Sunday:
- Des Plaines Street north of Lockport Street and south of Oak Street will be closed for parade bleacher viewing. This area will open shortly after the parade has concluded.
- Crowd barriers and traffic barricades will be prepositioned in the downtown area along Lockport Street, James Street, Illinois Street and Commercial Street.
- Parking along these same streets will be restricted. Vehicles that remain within the parade route will be towed/relocated at the owners' expense beginning after 11:00 a.m.

- James Street between Fort Beggs Drive and Commercial Street will be closed for a parade
staging.
Starting at 12:15 p.m. Sunday:
- James Street from Commercial Street to Lockport Street
- Lockport Street from Main Street (Route 126) to Route 59
- Illinois Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
- Commercial Street from Illinois Street to James Street
- Chicago Street from Route 59 to Fox River Street
- Ottawa Street from Route 59 to James Street
- Des Plaines Street from Oak Street to Commercial Street
- Fox River Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street
Route 59 will not be closed, but drivers should prepare for delays, police said.
Roads will reopen as soon as the parade has cleared the area, which is anticipated at about 3 p.m. Those not participating in or viewing the festivities are encouraged to avoid the downtown area between noon and 3 p.m.
No parking will be allowed along the parade route — which traverses James, Commercial, Illinois and Lockport streets — beginning at 1 a.m. Sunday until the conclusion of the event. Parking areas have been designated at Plainfield Central High School, the village's municipal lots on Des Plaines Street and Illinois Street, and the Riverfront area.
A limited number of accessible spots will be available on Des Plaines Street north of the alley, south of Oak Street.
