Village's Only Chili's Permanently Closed: 'Not A Plainfield Issue'

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield's only Chili's has closed, Mayor John Argoudelis confirmed to Patch.

The north Plainfield outpost, at 12740 Route 59, closed within the last week. The restaurant's last day of business is unclear; the mayor said the village doesn't know much about the closure.

Google lists the location as permanently closed, though the restaurant's website still shows the location's hours and phone number. Chili's representatives did not respond to Patch's request for comment.

"Chili's, like many casual dining chains, has been shrinking in their footprint," Argoudelis said. "I think it's more of a nationwide trend; people are looking for different options, and I think they're looking at the expense of dining at these restaurants. We see this as a national trend, not a Plainfield issue."

Similar to the CVS at 11840 S. Route 59 that's closing later this month, the village will work with potential retailers to fill vacant storefronts in town. Argoudelis said spaces on Route 59, corners or off traffic signals are "very popular."

"We are constantly in communication with retail end users, realtors, we go to trade shows," he said. "Many times we're being contacted by end users, and we keep an investor of what's available."

Locals craving Chili's Tex-Mex cuisine or burgers will have to drive to other nearby locations, including 259 S. Weber Road in Romeoville and 1275 W. Boughton Road in Bolingbrook.
