Werk Force Brewing Wins 3 Awards At U.S. Beer Open Championships

The Plainfield brewery won for two of its barrel-aged beers and a shandy.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Werk Force Brewing Co. added more hardware to its collection. The Plainfield brewery clinched three awards at this year's U.S. Open Beer Championships.

The Humongous Chungus took home silver in the Barrel-Aged Strong Stout/Porter Specialty category, while Brambleberry Cheesecake Sleepy Bear walked away with gold in the Wood/Barrel-Aged – Fruit Beer category. The Shandy Bobandy won bronze in the American Fruit – Mixed section, Werk Force owners announced Tuesday.

This year's Open Beer Championships was held in Oxford, Ohio. Breweries from every corner of the country sent more than 9,000 beers representing 170-plus styles to be judged in the competition.

"The U.S. Open Beer Championships is one of the most highly regarded beer competitions in the industry, and we are honored to have our beers stand out among the best in the country," Amanda Wright, who owns Werk Force along with her husband, Brandon, wrote in a news release. "This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our brewing team, who consistently strive to create innovative and delicious beers for our loyal customers."

Werk Force's taproom is located at 14903 S. Center St. in Plainfield.
