Shaylan Pittard, owner of The Weaveluxe Bar in Romeoville, also makes wigs for those battling cancer.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — While getting her done by a co-worker, Romeoville's Shaylan Pittard realized it was a great feeling that she would like to share with others. With that in mind, she opened her own hair salon in the village.
The Weaveluxe Bar, located at 373 South Budler Road, opened its doors on Oct. 26 and Pittard said they had a great turn out.
"My friends and family that have been around since day one was there and so that made my day that much better," she said. "To share this moment with genuine people who love and who are really happy about my success."

Starting a new business is daunting enough, and this year has brought with it a myriad challenges, from the pandemic to the chaos that ensued with the death of George Floyd, leading to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Pittard said she feels "blessed to have the opportunity to open a new Black-owed business in these uncertain times we are living in today."

"It is definitely an empowering feeling. Throughout all the negativity that has come to the surface in the year 2020, I can still say I pushed through and opened my business, and I am proud," she said. "With any business there are many challenges. God would not have put me here if he felt I was wasn’t ready for what’s to come."
What sets this salon apart is the attention that Pittard showers her customers with. She said she never overbooks, and ensures that everyone gets enough time. One of her services that stand out is the making of custom wigs for cancer patients, who have the opportunity to have their wigs covered under their Insurance.
She said she has been in business since 2013 and has garnered a strong customer base. This is her second location and the first one is in Bolingbrook. To make sure her guests are safe during the pandemic, she wipes down all the surfaces and sanitized them before and after each client. Masks are also enforced upon entry into the salon.
"When you first walk in, The Weaveluxe Bar offers a very cozy feeling. It’s a place you come sit in my chair to relax, talk, or watch a movie perhaps all while being pampered during their time with me," Pittard said. "My clientele is very much diverse. All different textures of hair are also sold in the salon to cater to all women of different ethnic backgrounds."
