ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –June 26, 2025— Nicor Gas, together with State Reps. Natalie Manley and Dagmara Avelar, Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel and the village of Romeoville’s mayor John Noak, hosted its first Community Connection Resource Fair of the year. The event provided over 280 families with free groceries and critical community resources.

Attendees received free grocery care packages filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, ground beef, chicken, pasta and rice—enough to feed a family of four for an entire week. In addition to the groceries, customers learned about free energy-saving offerings, bill payment assistance options, careers in energy and natural gas safety. The Salvation Army, Illinois Tollway, American Red Cross, Will County Center for Community Concerns and South Suburban Housing Center had representatives available to help connect attendees with basic needs resources.

The event marks the first in a series of 2025 Community Connection Resource Fairs, building on the success of last year’s grocery and resource fairs. In Illinois, close to 1.5 million people—over 12% of the population—live at or below the poverty line, often struggling to access basic necessities such as food, housing, medical care and heating. This year, the fairs are expected to support more than 4,500 families.

Since launching its first grocery and resource support event during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Nicor Gas has supported more than 15,600 families with over 329,000 pounds of food, along with financial and energy-saving resources. These efforts reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to going beyond the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable natural gas—by investing in the well-being of the communities it serves.

The Community Connection Resource Fairs are coordinated by the Nicor Gas Community Connection Center (C3), a free service that connects customers with a variety of support options including bill payment assistance, energy-saving offerings, basic needs assistance and so much more. The C3 team is available to help customers receive the resources they need beyond the fairs.
