Romeoville Police Warn Of Over-The-Phone Solicitation Scam

Officials said they took reports of scammers using the names of past and present Romeoville Police Department employees to scam locals.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — If you get a phone call from someone asking for money and claiming to be associated with the Romeoville Police Department, it's a scam, officials said.

In an alert published Monday afternoon on Facebook, Romeoville police said they were informed of scammers using the names of past and present department employees to trick people.

Chief Brant Hromadka told Patch that police received a total of four calls between Monday and Tuesday regarding the fraud, two from Romeoville residents, one from a Plainfield resident and another from a Naperville resident.

Officials said the department does not solicit money or verify signatures over the phone and warned locals not to give out bank or other financial information to anyone over the phone.
