Some Valley View Programs To See Fee Adjustments Next Year
While most school district fees will remain the same between this school year and next, a few specific program fees will be adjusted.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — At Monday's Valley View School District Board of Education meeting, the board unanimously approved some slight fee changes for the 2020-2021 school year. These fee changes will not apply to every student in the district and will only affect certain programs. Other fees will remain the same as they were during the 2019-2020 school year.
One fee that is changing is the school transportation fee for students living outside a mile and a half from their school. Currently, the cost of school transportation is $525 per student per year, with a two-student charge maximum per family. Next school year, that fee will be raised to $550 per student. The two school years following that, the fee will be raised to $575 per student. The two-student maximum charge per family will remain in effect.
This change in fees was proposed, according to the document outlining the proposal, to keep up with the projected average cost of transportation in the coming years. The current fee of $525 per student has not changed in five years.

The other notable adjustment is a reduction of the fee for district middle school students to participate in co-curricular non-athletic competitive programs, like Scholastic Bowl. Up to this school year, the fee to participate in such programs has been $70, but starting next year that fee will be reduced to $40. Garrick Grizaffi, the district's assistant superintendent for administrative services, said the reduced fee is meant to reflect non-athletic middle school programs' lower operating costs.
"They have a shorter season, they incur fewer costs, so we thought it was fair to reduce costs," Grizaffi said.
