Valley View Schools Closed Until At Least May 1

Physical classes will not take place in any school buildings until at least May 1, though home-learning options are available for parents.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — In cooperation with Governor Pritzker's Tuesday order to extend school closures through April 30, Valley View School District officials told Patch that the earliest students could return to classes would be Friday, May 1. This is the same date that Plainfield School District has proposed for its back-to-school day, and like Plainfield, is subject to change as the coronavirus crisis continues.

To aid parents and guardians during this long absence, the district has worked to make home-learning and online learning resources available. On Monday, the district distributed e-learning devices to families from R.C. Hill Elementary School in Romeoville.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Rachel Kinder also penned a letter to parents and guardians stating that the district planned to keep up with digital lessons for students as they are forced to sit out from proper classes. According to that letter, parents and guardians should expect details on their children's 'online learning platform' by Monday, April 6.

Good Evening, Valley View Families,

This is Rachel Kinder, Assistant Superintendent of Valley View School District with an important message about the extension of our school closure.

Find out what's happening in Romeovillefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

This afternoon, we learned that Governor Pritzker has extended the mandatory school closure through April 30th. Although our buildings will remain closed and we cannot have staff and students physically come back together, support, connection and learning will continue in Valley View. The partnership with staff, families, and community is our best source of strength during this time.

Our staff are working hard to prepare to support students over this extended period of time. Remote Learning (rLearning) is scheduled to begin in VVSD on Tuesday, April 7th. A calendar and general expectations for students will be posted online at https://www.vvsd.org/rlearning. Your school and your child’s teacher(s) will also be communicating additional details via email and/or the designated online learning platform by Monday, April 6th.

This is a huge adjustment for students, staff, and parents; however, I am confident that we will all do our best to grow and adapt together. Every learner has different needs and every family has different circumstances, but we all share a commitment in partnering to ensure every child is supported, connected, and engaged in learning. Let us all give each other grace and flexibility during this time. We are in this together.

#KeepLearning
#VVSDProud

Stay healthy,
Rachel Kinder, Ed S
Asst. Superintendent of Schools
Valley View School District 365U
