130+ Cited, 4 Arrested During Thanksgiving Traffic Safety Campaign In Skokie

During the Thanksgiving enforcement period, four people were arrested, and 137 were cited for various traffic violations.

SKOKIE, IL — The Skokie Police Department cited 137 people during the recent Thanksgiving traffic safety campaign period that lasted from Nov. 21 to Dec. 2

During the time period, police arrested two people for traffic violations, one for driving under the influence and an individual suspected of criminal activity. They were later charged with three unspecified felonies and one misdemeanor.

“These results reflect our commitment to a safe community,” said Sgt. Melissa Russell “Impaired is impaired, whether you use alcohol, cannabis or other drugs. Combine that with not wearing a seat belt, and the consequences can be deadly. Please buckle up and plan a sober ride every time.”

Additionally, police issued citations for the following:

  • 25 speeding citations
  • 59 occupant restraint citations
  • 5 electronic device use citations
  • 48 other traffic citations

Skokie police joined forces with other state and local law enforcement agencies that participated in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “It's Not a Game” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns. The
campaigns are funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
