5 Arrested, 188 Cited During Labor Day Safety Campaign In Skokie

During the Labor Day enforcement period, five people were arrested and more than 160 were cited for various traffic violations.

SKOKIE, IL — The Skokie Police Department issued 165 citations and arrested five people during the recent Labor Day traffic safety campaign period that lasted from Aug. 15 to Sept. 2.

During the time period, police arrested five people and issued 53 seat belt citations.

“Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving – ‘It’s Not a Game,’” said Sergeant Melissa Russell.

Additionally, police issued citations for the following:

  • 2 child safety restraint citation
  • 21 uninsured motorist citations
  • 54 speeding citations
  • 18 distracted driving citations
  • 40 other citations

Skokie police joined forces with other state and local law enforcement agencies that participated in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High Get a DUI” campaigns. The campaigns are funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
