Driver Strikes 47-Year-Old Pedestrian In Skokie, Woman In Critical Condition, Police Say

SKOKIE, IL — Police said a 47-year-old woman was critically injured when she was struck by a car Monday morning at the intersection of Dempster Street and East Prairie Road, according to Skokie police.

The incident occurred at about 8:20 a.m., when a motorist driving east on Dempster Street struck the pedestrian as she crossed the road from the southeast corner of East Prairie Road of the intersection.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly after, and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries. Police described her condition at the time as critical but stable.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, though police released no further details about the motorist, including whether any citations had been issued or whether speed or intoxication were considered to be a factor.

The intersection of Dempster and East Prairie has a stoplight, though police have not specified whether the motorist had a green light.

Skokie police requested help from investigators from the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force’s Major Crash Assistance Team, or NORTAF MCAT, which is assisting the village's officers with the probe.
