Coronavirus: Married Couple From Skokie Die Hours Apart

A Skokie couple died hours apart from each other after testing positive for coronavirus.

SKOKIE, IL — Feliks Ogorodnik, 88, of Skokie and his wife, Luiza, 84, died hours apart on Saturday at Glenbrook Hospital due to complications from the new coronavirus, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The couple immigrated to the United States from Ukraine 20 years ago and leave behind two children and four grandchildren, according to an obituary from Chicago Jewish Funerals.

Luiza was a physician in Ukraine and loved books, theater and learning new skills.

"She was a very energetic woman, full of optimism and life," the obituary read. "She loved people and always sought to help those around her."

Feliks managed supplies for a construction company in Ukraine and loved gardening.

"He always shared his harvest with family and neighbors," the obituary read.

Both were grateful to come to the United States and always strived to improve their English and learn more about the country, according to their obituary.
