SKOKIE, IL —In its second edition of the Books and Badges initiatives, the Skokie Police Department is reminding residents to follow social distancing guidelines and stay safe. The initiative gives emergency service workers all around the country a chance to read books to children through online videos as a way to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Skokie Police Commander Timothy Gramins became the second Skokie officer to read a book online. Gramins said he chose "How I Became a Pirate" by Melinda Long because it was one of his kids' favorite books growing up. All Books and Badges videos put out by Skokie police will be posted on the department's Facebook page.
