Fatal Hit-And-Run Leaves 78-Year-Old Skokie Man Dead On Crawford Avenue, Suspect At Large

After killing Alfred Slivio, the driver in Skokie's latest deadly hit-and-run fled the scene in a "dark-colored vehicle," police said.

SKOKIE, IL — A motorist fatally struck a man and then left him in the street to die Sunday afternoon in Skokie, police said.

Shortly before 4 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Crawford Avenue and Kirk Street for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a car.

Alfred Slivo, 78, of Skokie, was pronounced dead around 4:15 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The driver that hit him fled the scene, marking the second fatal hit-and-run in the village in less than three months.

Police did not disclose what type of vehicle the hit-and-run driver had, describing it in a release only as a "dark-colored vehicle."

Officers determined that a driver headed north on Crawford Avenue had fatally struck a man who was crossing the street just north of Kirk Street, police said.

There are no crosswalks on that portion of Crawford Avenue.

Skokie police requested help with the investigation from the major crash assistance team of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, or NORTAF.
