Fire Damages Skokie Dry Cleaner Business: Report

An early morning fire gutted Skokie dry cleaning business Kenny The Kleener Wednesday reports say.

SKOKIE, IL — An early morning fire left Skokie dry cleaning business Kenny The Kleener gutted and boarded up Wednesday, according to reports.

ABC7 spoke with Ken Davis, owner of the Skokie location and four other locations nearby, who said he started his work day inspecting the damage of his charred business.

"I'm at the end of my life and my career here," Davis told ABC7. "This is going to impact me and raise my aggravation level but my real concern is about them and our customers."

Kenny The Kleener first opened in Skokie in 2003 and has become a pillar in the community. During the COVID pandemic, Davis and Kenny The Kleener patched together cloth masks to sell to the community, which helped the business stay afloat during economic hardships that plagued businesses of all kinds at the time.

Looking forward, Davis told ABC7 he is optimistic about the future of the dry cleaning business and is looking forward to fixing the building up and getting back to business.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation. according to Skokie fire officials.
