Featured Obituary:

Dr. Lawrence B. Metrick, beloved husband of the late Barbara nee La Vine. Loving father of David (Kim) Metrick, Rob Metrick, and Susan (Brett) Cutler. Proud grandfather of Jordyn (fiancé Michael Leibow), Ethan, Asa, Matthew, Olivia, Kylie and Grace. Dear brother of the late Philip Metrick and Estelle Sweedlow. Devoted son of the late Isidore and Anna Metrick. Fond uncle of many.

Lawrence graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He joined the Army as a paratrooper in 1948, going on to obtain his medical license at Chicago Medical School. During his medical residency, he met the love of his life, Barbara and they married in 1960 and were married for over 57 years.

Lawrence “Dr. Metrick” quickly became the top Orthopedic Surgeon in Northbrook, and eventually expanded offices to Deerfield and Long Grove. He loved his patients, and they loved him. Dr. Metrick would never turn away any patient in need, often working until midnight after every last one was seen. Family dinner outings always included patients greeting dad as everyone knew him on the north shore. He was a founding member of Beth Shalom in Northbrook where he remained a member throughout his life.

Lawrence and Barbara loved taking the family on winter vacations mostly to Hawaii. Each spring, he spent time gardening in both the front yard and backyard adding hundreds of beautiful flowers for everyone to enjoy during many memorable summer BBQ pool parties with family and friends. Lawrence was proud of his children and grandchildren and spoke of them with pure joy. Everyone who knew Lawrence loved him, his warm personality, wit and sense of humor. This immeasurable loss can never be matched.
