Featured Obituary:
Joseph S. "Joe" Moag, Jr., age 59, of Chicago, IL., passed away peacefully at home with loving friends nearby Saturday, December 2, 2023, after a diagnosis of cancer. He was born on May 23, 1964, to Joseph S. Moag, Sr., and Helen (Thorn) Moag, in Evanston, IL.
Joseph was a graduate of Evanston Township High School in 1982, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1987 with a BA in Anthropology and in 1993 earned his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, IL
Throughout his life and career Joe was dedicated to helping underserved and marginalized communities. As a development director for several nonprofit organizations in the Chicago area Joe raised funds to support programs that helped those populations with the greatest needs. His most recent positions included Director of Development & Communications for Renaissance Social Services (benefitting the homeless), Director of Institutional Giving & Program Development at Nuemann Family Services (serving developmentally disabled adults) and Manager of Program Development at Connections for the Homeless in Evanston, IL.
Joe was an ardent fan of baseball and football, and some would say an encyclopedia of sports information. He was most enthusiastic about the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears; with friends noting fond memories of being with Joe after practically waiting a lifetime to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Joe often wished he could have shared that dream finally coming true with his late father Joseph Sr.
More than anything Joe was a passionate animal lover. In 2020, he was a committed volunteer spending countless hours protecting the hatchlings of the endangered Piping Plovers bird species at Montrose Beach. Joe especially loved dogs and throughout his adult life was a devoted father to 6 rescued canines Eric, Niles, Ernie, Filbert, Happy and is survived by Giggles.Read more via Haben Funeral Home & Crematory »
