Featured Obituary:

Dorothy Jean Schory, age 90 of Glenview, Illinois passed away peacefully in her home Monday, February 27.

Dorothy was born July 20, 1932 in Belmond, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin Philip and Marvyl Bea (Robinson) Parsons. Dorothy graduated from Ames (Iowa) High in 1950 and received her BS degree in Home Economics from Iowa State University in 1954. She met Richard (Dick) Schory, her husband in middle school and they wed on June 12, 1954, enjoying 69 years of marriage and nearly 80 years of companionship. Shortly after their nuptials, Dorothy and Dick moved to Evanston, IL where Dorothy worked in the chemistry lab at Northwestern University while her husband attended music school. In 1959, they moved to Glenview where they raised five children. Along with managing the family home, Dorothy worked side-by-side with Dick in running the accounting for their music business, Ovation Records. Up until recently, she continued to manage the operations of their music publishing company from their home.

In nearly the 65 years that she lived in Glenview, Dorothy was very active in her community and neighborhoods and enjoyed a house full of people - everyone was always welcome. She was a long-time member of the Glenview Community Church, working in the nursery for many years, and enjoyed helping the schools as a member of the PTA and volunteering countless hours of her time. She also strongly supported the Girl Scouts and led a troop for several years.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, regularly attending her husband’s many music performances including the Glenview Concert Band where she became known as its biggest fan. Although she loved music, family was at the core of Dorothy’s soul. She was happiest when surrounded by her husband, five children, thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and enjoyed supporting them in their activities and sporting events, allowing her to spend quality time with them. She adored her family and gave selflessly to all.
