Featured Obituary:
Emil “Coach” Capitani, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Beloved husband of Diane nee Novak; loving father of Jennifer Capitani and Julie (Jason) Eisenhut; dearest Grampy of Kelsey and Matt Eisenhut; brother of the late Donna Smith and Joseph Capitani; uncle to many special nieces and nephews.
Emil grew up on a farm in a small town southwest of Chicago called Hennepin. His father wanted him to be the first one in the family to go to college and not be a farmer, so he used to give him all the messy farming tasks. He hated those tasks and spent every free minute playing basketball. He became so good that he jumped straight to the varsity team upon entering high school and helped his hometown win many championships.
After high school, Emil went to Western Illinois University where he graduated with a degree in mathematics education. He and Diane began dating at this time and were together ever since. They even just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August. After graduating college, Emil secured his first teaching job as junior high math teacher at the former Locust Junior High School. It was during this time that Emil earned his Master's Degree in Mathematics Education. After a few years, he moved on to teach math and coach basketball at Niles East High School. After it closed, he was transferred to Niles West High school for many years. Some of his greatest memories were coaching his wonderful basketball players and keeping in touch with them over the years. It truly meant the world to him.Read more via Donnellan Family Funeral Home »
