Featured Obituary:
Elinor Turbov, née Joffe, age 97. Beloved wife of the late Joseph. Beloved companion of the late David Cobb Stockwell. Loving mother of Anne (Alan) Kraus and Jane (Mark Stearns). Loving stepmother of Chris Stockwell (Chris Laubach). Proud grandmother of David Kraus (Angelica Cleveland), Susan Gladden (Nickolas) and Aaron Stearns. Proud step-grandmother of Sam Stockwell Laubach and Harley Stockwell Laubach.
Elinor obtained a BA in Speech and MA in English Literature from Northwestern University. She was a dedicated, creative English teacher for 30 years at Nichols Middle School in Evanston, Illinois, and department head for many years. She touched the lives of her students profoundly. Once retired, she continued to be an active member of her community: contributing to many charities, participating both as an actor and behind the scenes of Winnetka Community Theater, volunteering at the Evanston Hospital gift shop, giving tours as a docent for Chicago Architectural Tours, serving on her condo board, and taking a keen interest in her family and friends. She maintained her sparkling wit and sharp intellect by taking classes at Northwestern University, attending many cultural events, reading voraciously, and traveling extensively.Read more via Chicago Jewish Funerals »
