Featured Obituary:
Samuel Lovering “Sam”, 94, of Evanston left this life on October 16, 2023.
Beloved husband of Joan Murtaugh Lovering, former husband of the late Amber Lynch.
Born February 1, 1929, in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia to Eleanor Dunning and Joseph Shallcross Lovering. He leaves behind siblings Alis Lovering Fern (Deceased) and Talbot Dunning Lovering. He is survived by his children Joseph Shallcross “Pete”, Michael Scott and Hutchinson Clark, as well as stepchildren Ann Lois Harriman and John Walter Harriman “Johnny”; grandchildren Jason Scott Lovering (Rebekah), Christopher Michael Lovering (Camille) and Ariel Edenixssa; great grandchildren Bryson Christopher and Zander Michael Lovering.
Sam attended William Penn Charter School and St. Andrew’s School before graduating from New Trier High School in 1949. He studied at Bucknell and De Paw Universities. In the 1950's, he served with the United States Army in the Military Police, stationed in West Germany. Sam became a vice president at LaSalle National Bank and was a longstanding member of The Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club. He was an avid musician, playing the piano, accordion, and harmonica. He was a talented painter, with a passion for clocks. He loved hunting, skiing, but most of all, sailing. He was a century cyclist, and he rode his bike until his last days. He was a history enthusiast with a love of jazz and classical music as well as antique cars. Due to his love of genealogy, he spent countless hours during his last years working on the Lovering family history.
His sense of humor, perpetual cheerfulness, and booming bass voice will be missed, especially his rendition of “Happy Birthday!!” He always said he was the luckiest man alive.Read more via Donnellan Family Funeral Services »
