Emanuel Raphael Arbel, z”l, 92. Beloved husband of Carmela Arbel, z"l, for 55 years; cherished father of Tal (David Newman) Arbel-Newman, Ifaat Arbel (Steven) Bosse and Rafi (Jennifer) Arbel; proud Saba to Noah Emanuel and Jonah Newman, Ari and Danielle Bosse, Emanuel Joseph, Jacob and Isaac Arbel; devoted son to the late Dr. Raphael and Chanah Chekerdjiev; dear brother to Sima (late Nisim) Shoev and the late Rachamim Arbel; loving brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Dr. Arbel was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, moved to Israel in 1949 where he served in the Israel Defense Forces and earned his medical degree from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He immigrated to the United States in 1965 where he became a cardiologist and conducted ground-breaking research on the development of pacemakers. He was a treasured physician in the Chicago area for more than 40 years.
