Here's what's up in Skokie for Weds., Oct. 2.

- Interested in the topic of "Women in Jewish Life"? The NSSC's program, at 10 a.m., presents a pretty sweeping look.
- "Fighting for Their Lives: Race, Violence and the Promise of Justice in America," a panel discussion in the wake of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman, takes place at 11 a.m. at Oakton Community College's Des Plaines campus.
- Skokie's Commission on Family Services meets at 7 p.m., the Zoning Board of Appeals at 7:30. In case you need something zoned, or just like hanging out with wonky types.
- Looking ahead: Fear City, the giant haunted house in Morton Grove, opens Friday. Go with someone bigger than you.
