Reckless Homicide Charge Filed Over Death Of Pedestrian In Lincolnwood
Authorities said a Maryland motorist was doing at least 70 mph down Devon Avenue when he struck and killed a 52-year-old man.

LINCOLNWOOD, IL — Authorities said a Maryland man was driving recklessly when he struck and killed a pedestrian earlier this year in Lincolnwood.
Kevin Toomey, 52, of Chicago, died from injuries he suffered when a car speeding down Devon Avenue plowed into him at its intersection with Crawford Avenues shortly after 4 p.m. on Feb. 11, according to the Lincolnwood Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Lincolnwood police called in the North Regional Major Crime Task Force, or NORTAF, to investigate.

Detectives eventually determined the driver of the white Honda minivan was going at least 70 miles per hour when he struck Toomey, police said.
On Thursday, investigators presented their findings to prosecutors, who approved a felony count against the driver.

Syed Haneff Ahmed, 30, of Windsor Mill, Maryland, was charged with reckless homicide and speeding 35 or per hour or more above the posted speed limit, which was 35 mph at the location of the crash.
In Illinois law, reckless homicide is the vehicular version of involuntary manslaughter.
Police said Ahmed was also issued traffic citations for improper lane usage, improper passing and improper lane change.
Toomey, who was pronounced dead at an hospital shortly after the crash, was survived by his mother, wife, three children and five siblings, according to an obituary.
