Skokie-Based Peapod Opens Deerfield Drive Through Location
During the early 90s, Skokie-based Peapod was all the buzz. While the hype has died down since then, the online grocery company is expanding to nearby Deerfield as a drive-through.

Skokie based and online grocery supplier Peapod became Deerfield’s newest business Tuesday as it opened a drive-through facility at 677 Lake Cook Road near, or Deerlake Road. The new drive-through facility now allows shoppers to save on the delivery charge.
The Deerfield location is the second for the company.
Orders have to be placed by 10 a.m. in order to be picked up same day, according to Peapod Public Relations Manager Elana Margolis.

“You can place the order on your smart phone while you’re on the train (before 10 a.m.) going to work and it will be ready when you get off (after 4 p.m.),” Margolis said.
People who elect to take advantage of this new service will also save money they would otherwise spend when Peapod delivers to their home. “They won’t pay the $6.95 per hundred (dollar) delivery fee,” Margolis said.

For Peapod, the new facility is a natural extension of its online grocery ordering business. It adds convenience as well as potential savings, according to Margolis. A person placing an online order for delivery must wait until the next day. With the new opportunity it can be same day service.
“We are offering our customers an opportunity for pickup,” Margolis said. “It’s a convenience for them if they’re going to be out and don’t want to wait until the next morning.”
