Zap Stress With A Meditation Class In Skokie Wednesday

  • Cheer for your neighbor, who was just selected a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-Off with her Cranberry Orange Dark Chocolate Flatbread. Arlene Erlbach of Morton Grove and 99 other contestants will parade, two by two, into a swanky Las Vegas hotel ballroom in the Bake-Off Grand March on the weekend of Nov. 10. Then they'll take up their stations at their mini kitchens and have about three hours to make their recipes three times. "Our best shot we give to the judges. The other two are for a display," Erlbach said. In a few days she'll receive a very specific list of groceries and equipment to order. The previous time she made the finals, she needed two eggs, and asked what would happen if she broke one by accident. The answer: no extra eggs allowed.
  • More interesting stuff about food: In the "Brain Food" program, a chef will prepare foods aimed at boosting memory in older adults, with tastings for 50 people, as part of "Feats of Fitness" at Golf Mill Shopping Center.
