Baby Girl Of Fatally Shot Pregnant Woman Dies
Doctors were able to keep the child alive for 4 days following last week's shooting, which also claimed the life of a 33-year-old man.

CHICAGO, IL — The chid of a pregnant woman shot and killed last week on the Far South Side died Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Doctors at Oak Lawn's Advocate Christ Medical Center had kept the baby girl, Janea Lemon, alive for four days after her mother, 20-year-old Charnella Lemon, was fatally shot Friday, the report stated. A 33-year-old man, Terrence Carter, also was killed in the shooting, which investigators believe might have been the result of a domestic incident, the report added.
According to police, the shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the 400 block of West 102nd Place in the Fernwood neighborhood. Lemon and Carter were sitting in a parked car when they were shot and killed, the Tribune reports. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene, and Lemon, who was shot three times in the chest, died later at the hospital.
Janae was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Efforts to save the child were intially successful, but the girl died from her injuries at about 2:28 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, the report stated.
