Baby Saved After Pregnant Woman Fatally Shot
The child was in critical condition following the shooting Friday. An unidentified man also was killed in the morning incident.

CHICAGO, IL — Doctors saved the baby of a pregnant woman who died after being shot three times in the chest Friday morning on the Far South Side, according to the Chicago Tribune. A man also was fatally shot in what might have been a domestic incident in the Fernwood neighborhood, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Tribune. The baby was taken to Oak Lawn's Advocate Christ Medical Center and was listed in critical condition, Guglielmi added.
According to police, the pregnant woman and the man were shot at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the 400 block of West 102nd Place, the report stated. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, but it's unclear when the woman died or how doctors were able to save the child, the report added.
The identities of both victims have not been released. The gender of the child also has not been released. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for the South Side and Chicago — or other neighborhoods. And iPhone users: Check out Patch's new app.)
