Chicago Cop Dragged By Minivan During South Side Traffic Stop

Police apprehended the driver after he dragged the officer about five blocks Saturday in the Gresham neighborhood.

CHICAGO, IL — A man was taken into custody Saturday night after he allegedly dragged a Chicago police officer by the minivan he was driving during a traffic stop on the South Side, the Chicago Tribune reports. The officer was hurt in the incident and was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, the report added.

The dragging happened around 8:35 p.m. when police stopped the man in the 200 block of West 76th Street in the Gresham neighborhood, the report stated. After the man refused to get out of his minivan, he sped off, and the officer was pinned between the minivan and the passenger-side door, the report added. The man dragged the officer about five blocks to the 7600 block of South Eggleston Avenue, the report stated. That's where he finally ran into a pole and was apprehended, the report added. Police say they recovered a weapon from the scene, the Tribune reports.
