Chicago Police Ask Public For Tips In St. Sabina Triple Shooting

The triple shooting evolved from an argument inside the St. Sabina gym during a basketball tournament, before it spilled outside, cops say.

CHICAGO — Chicago police have released security video images of two suspects and a vehicle sought in connection with a triple shooting Sunday afternoon outside of St. Sabina Church. This is the second shooting to occur this year on church property.

Three men in their thirties were taken to area hospitals with gunshot wounds in a shooting Sunday afternoon, Chicago police said.

About 4:11 p.m., a man standing near the sidewalk in the pulled out a gun and fired shots in the direction of three men, ages 30, 33 and 38, who were also standing on the sidewalk.

The 30-year-old sustained a gunshot wound in the shoulder and was transported to University of Chicago Hospital.

The 33-year-old suffered a gunshot wound in the foot and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital.

The oldest of the trio, the 38-year-old, sustained a gunshot wound in the hip and was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. All three victims were listed in stable condition.

Police have released images of those to believed to be involved in the shooting, which is said to have started from an argument inside the church gym during a basketball tournament before it spilled outside. The tournament was being held in St. Sabina's Ark Community Center in the 7800 block of South Racine Avenue.

The first suspect is described as a male black, with medium length dreadlocks, dark complexion, heavy build, wearing a black White Sox baseball cap, black puffy jacket, black pants and black gym shoes.

The second suspect is also a male black, with short hair, a medium length beard, medium complexion and heavy build, wearing a black baseball cap, black puffy jackets, gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and white gym shoes.

Both fled in a newer model year, dark-colored Mazda SUV. Area 2 detectives are investigating.

Father Michael Pfleger, told the Chicago Triune he was suspending their men’s basketball league on Sundays. He was cooperating with Chicago police and said security video captured “everything,”
