CTA Hiring Bus Operators, Bus Mechanics Friday At Malcom X Career Fair

CHICAGO — The Chicago Transit Authority is hosting a Career Fair Friday, Aug. 25, at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson. Chicago-area residents are invited to take the first step toward a career in transportation with the CTA. The career fair runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the college conference center.

The CTA has mounted an aggressive recruitment effort to hire bus operators and bus mechanics. New hires will receive a $1,000 signing bonus. The CTA offers opportunities for advancement, competitive pay and great benefits, including paid training, as well as hiring and retention incentives. Commercial drivers licenses are not required to apply.

“We’re making tremendous progress in strengthening our workforce having hired more than 600 new bus operators and welcoming more than 1,200 total new hires so far this year,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. in a news release.

Applicants for bus operator and bus mechanic positions will enjoy newly increased competitive pay, with starting hourly wages of $28.65 for bus operators and $41.90 for bus mechanics, as well as excellent health benefits, a pension, and opportunities for advancement. The $1,000 hiring bonus will appear on the first paycheck and employees must remain at CTA for one year.

Interested candidates who possess excellent customer service skills, a willingness to earn a commercial driver’s license and are interested in seeking employment with options for a rewarding career in the transportation industry are strongly encouraged to attend.

CTA has expanded recruitment and hiring efforts as part of the “Meeting the Moment” Action Plan, a multi-tiered effort to provide more reliable service and improve the customer experience.
The career fair will be held in the Malcolm X College Career Center, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, with presentations at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25.
