Dan Ryan Expressway Shooting: Man Killed, Girl, 2, Hurt In Attack

Two women who were passengers in the vehicle also were hurt in Thursday night's incident on the South Side.

CHICAGO, IL — A driver, 20, was fatally shot in the head while he was traveling on the Dan Ryan Expressway on Thursday night on the South Side, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Two women and a girl, 2, who were riding in the vehicle were injured in the attack, the report added. The identities of the victims have not Pbeen released by Illinois State Police.

The shooting occurred at around 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, as the man was driving northbound on Interstate 90/94, near 51st Street, the Sun-Times reports. Before the attack and subsequent crash, witnesses told state police that two vehicles were driving erratically along that stretch of the Dan Ryan, the report stated. Once the victim slammed his vehicle into an expressway wall, the other vehicle kept driving north, the report added.

The driver who was shot taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, state police and Chicago Fire Department officials told the Sun-Times. Two of the passengers — a 2-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman — were taken to St. Bernard Hospital, and they were in good condition as doctors treated them for injuries suffered, the report stated Another passenger in the vehicle — an 18-year-old woman — also was hurt refused medical treatment at the scene, the report added.

The incident closed the local lanes of the Day Ryan from 51st to 63rd street until 9:30 p.m. Thursaday. State police are continuing an investiagtion of the shooting to determine a motive in the attack.
