Dan Ryan Expressway Shooting Shuts Down Inbound Lanes

UPDATED: At least 2 people were wounded in the Thursday afternoon incident and transported themselves to a nearby hospital.

CHICAGO, IL — At least two people were wounded from a shooting Thursday afternoon on the Dan Ryan Expressway that has shut down all inbound lanes of traffic near 71st Street on the South Side. The victims transported themselves to St. Bernard Hospital, where their conditions were stablized, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. According to WGN-TV News, the victims were two men, ages 27 and 21, and they were set to be transferred to Stroger Hospital.

Illinois State Police are currently investigating the incident, and Dan Ryan drivers are being rerouted south of 71st Street while the expressway's northbound lanes are blocked off. Investigators are still trying to determine if the gunfire occurred on the expressway or if it came from a surrounding area, CBS 2 Chicago reports.

According to state police, a report of a shooting between 59th and 71st streets was received Thursday, Sept. 7, according to WGN.
