Family Of Child Thrown Off Balcony Investigated By DCFS In 2016
The state agency had received a report of possible neglect involving the victim's sibling.

CHICAGO, IL — The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has investigated the family of the 1-year-old girl who was thrown off a South Shore balcony for possible neglect, the Chicago Tribune reported. The investigation, which occurred in 2016, centered on a sibling and not the victim.
In March 2016, the DCFS received a report of neglect allegations regarding the sibling, the report stated. A private agency was asked to work with the family, and the case was closed in September.
So far, no arrests have been reported by Chicago police in connection with the incident involving the 1-year-old child. Police said the girl was thrown from the balcony of a building in the 700 block of South Paxton Avenue at about 6 a.m. Jan. 20. Details about what led up to the incident or how many stories she fell have not been released.
