Gunman Shoots Hostage, Is Killed By Police Near Ford City: Cops
Police said a woman was shot in the neck, and a 78-year-old hostage was also wounded by the gunman.
CHICAGO, IL — A woman was shot and wounded near the Ford City Mall Sunday afternoon, police said, and the gunman later also wounded a 78-year-old hostage before being fatally shot by police.
Police said officers responded to the 4200 block of West Ford City Drive around 1:15 p.m. after a woman was shot in the neck. She was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition.
The gunman then barricaded himself in a home after firing shots at police, ABC Chicago reported.

No officers were hit, police said, and a SWAT team attempted negotiations and de-escalation before officers fired, fatally shooting the gunman.
Police said a second hostage, a 78-year-old man, was also found with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was also taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition.

A gun was found at the scene of the standoff, police said.
The police shooting is being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) and the officers will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days, as is routine in situations where police fire their weapons.
