Chicago Cop Shoots Juvenile In South Shore Incident: Police

UPDATED: The male juvenile was hospitalized in stable condition after he was shot in the buttocks Friday afternoon, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A male juvenile was shot in the buttocks by Chicago police during a robbery call Friday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood, according to the department. The juvenile was taken to a local hospital, and he was in stable condition, Chicago police said in a preliminary statement following the incident.

The shooting happened at around 12:53 p.m. Friday, March 9, in the 7200 block of South Merrill Avenue. According to police, officers noticed a suspicious vehicle circling the block while on a robbery call. Two males then got out of the vehicle after it was parked.

An "armed confrontation" broke out when police approached the males to question them, and an officer open fire, hitting one of the males, according to authorities. Both males were taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered from the scene, police said.

No officers were hurt in the incident, according to police. The shooting is under investigation, and the officers involved will be placed on 30-day, routine administrative duties.
