Officer Shot Several Times In Bedford Park: Police

The officer was taken to a hospital and one person was in custody in connection with the incident, police said.

BEDFORD PARK, IL — An officer was repeatedly shot overnight in Bedford Park, according to police.

The officer was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, and one person was in custody in connection with the incident, police said.

The circumstances leading to the shooting began around 3:40 a.m. Sunday, when officers in the southwest suburb responded to the 6700 block of South Archer Road for a vehicle crash and found an empty vehicle with heavy damage that had been reported stolen in a Chicago carjacking, according to police.

Video surveillance revealed two people fleeing the scene and a short time later officers saw two people emerge from a grassy area and enter a vehicle at a gas station in the 6800 block of South Archer Road, police said.

Officers tried to stop them and one of the people physically resisted, leading to a struggle during which the person fired at an officer, striking him several times, according to police.
