WATCH: Denzel Washington Surprises South Side Great-Grandma

"I was in a daze," Juanita Hubbard, 86, said about the unexpected visit from the Oscar-winning actor Saturday.

CHICAGO, IL — Being a starstruck fan knows no age limit, especially when a favorite celebrity unexpectedly drops by over the weekend. And being a grandmother — or even a great-grandmother — doesn't mean you can't hang on the arm of the star from "Training Day" as he rattles off lines from the movie with your friends and family on your front porch.

That's what 86-year-old Juanita Hubbard found out Saturday when actor Denzel Washington ended up at her South Side home while looking for a restaurant while he was in town. A video and photos of the surprise visit were posted online, and it shows Hubbard and the Oscar-winning performer sharing laughs and chatting about the neighborhood.

"I was in a daze because I didn't think that was the man," Hubbard said in another Facebook video posted by her granddaughter following the visit. "Who could believe that he was walking on my step, you know? … I couldn't keep believing that was the man." Hubbard has another family member to thank for the chance encounter. Washington had approached her grandson near Hubbard's East 86th Street and South East End Avenue home asking for directors to Leon's Barbecue. The grandson then asked Washington if he would stop to say hello to Hubbard, who has lived in the area since the 1950s. It was an invitation he graciously accepted.

"I turned and looked, and when I saw this tall, handsome, young man walk up on my step, I just froze," she said about first realizing Washington was her house guest. "And I looked up, and I said, 'Dear God, my blessing has been answered.' "

Hubbard was equally lucky to be home at the time, too. She has been staying with a granddaughter while repairs are being done on her home. She happened to be at her house Saturday waiting on a delivery.

In the video from the visit, Washington, who's from Mount Vernon, New York, talks about visiting a cousin near East 86th Street and South Harper Avenue while the 62-year-old actor was between the ages of 5 and 7.

"You know, people the same wherever you go," he said.

Hubbard called Washington one of the greatest black men she knows, and she came close to making the actor a new permanent resident of the city Saturday.

"I'm not going to let him go," Hubbard says during the visit.

"You could see I was just holding on for dear life," she admitted in a video afterward.
