Centennial Park Gets New Outdoor Gym
Those frequenting Centennial Park now have one more workout option—an Outdoor Fitness Zone designed to offer resistance-based fitness training. Read on to learn how it works.

One of the 's most visited parks recently got a new feature which should help fitness buffs get ... well, more buff.
In addition to 's 12-acre lake, walking track and overall serenity, it now boasts an Outdoor Fitness Zone. The area, which is adjacent to the Centennial Park parking lot and was installed in July, helps park-goers add strength training to their outdoor workout, according to a news release from the park district.

"The new Outdoor Fitness Zone ... has already had some curious people stopping by to try out the new equipment during their workout," the release said.
Purchased from Greenfields Outdoor Fitness, the equipment includes an elliptical machine, vertical press, rowing machine and stationary bike. It is resistance based and relies on a person's weight to create that effect.

"It's quite literally your body working out with your body," a park district spokesman said, in the release.
All equipment is designed for those aged 13 years old and older. The area doesn't require a membership and will remain open year-round.
A ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony for the Outdoor Fitness Zone is scheduled for Sept. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be served and a personal trainer will be on hand to provide a brief demonstration on how to properly use each piece of equipment.
The ceremony—as well as the fitness equipment—is open to the public. Nearby residents and frequent visitors of Centennial Park are encouraged to attend. The park is located at 7220 167th St. in .
