Fire Blazed Through Orland Hills Home Wednesday

ORLAND HILLS, IL — A fire blazed through an Orland Hills home late Wednesday afternoon, causing the house to become uninhabitable, according to the Orland Fire Protection District.

Just before 12 p.m., the fire district was called by a nearby neighbor that noticed smoke coming from the house behind theirs in the 16800 block of 89th Court. Fire officials arrived at the scene within minutes, and found smoke coming from the second floor roof vents, along with the back of the home.

When fire crews got inside, the fire district said they found the house full of smoke and a fire in the upstairs bathroom that had extended up the walls to the attic, and to the exterior wall of the home. Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack and deployed two handlines to quickly extinguish the fire, according to the fire district.

Multiple fire crews arrived on the scene and assisted with fire control, search and rescue, and overhaul of the structure. Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries, but the home is currently uninhabitable.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Orland Fire District Investigation Team. Other fire departments providing coverage and manpower included Palos Fire, Tinley Park, Crestwood, Matteson, New Lenox and Frankfort.

The early notification to the fire department by an observant neighbor helped keep further damage to a minimum, the department said.
